Starting Kindergarten
Starting school is an exciting milestone, and we’re here to make your child’s first year a joyful and inspiring experience. Our friendly and dedicated team provides a safe, nurturing environment where every kindergartner is supported to explore, learn, and grow. With a play-based, engaging curriculum designed to spark curiosity and build strong foundations, your child will develop the confidence and skills to thrive throughout their educational journey. Kindergarten 2027
Students attend a 4-week program during the morning. It is an opportunity for students to become familiar with ‘big school’ and for teachers to meet students. These sessions will be held from 9.45-10.45am each week and the Child and parent/carers are to attend all sessions. Transition dates are listed below:
Transition 1: Monday 26th October 2026
Transition 2: Monday 2nd November 2026
Transition 3: Monday 9th November 2026
Transition 4: Monday 16th November 2026
Before your child starts Kindergarten
School Tours
If you have a child at home that will be starting school at Peakhurst next year, please come along to join us for a school tour. Enrolments are currently in progress online. If you have not yet enrolled, contact the school office for further details to ensure that your child does not miss out on our transition program throughout Term 4.

Enrolment interview
Before your child begins, all families meet with our principal. This is a time to share:
- medical conditions or allergies
- learning support needs
- family circumstances that may affect your child’s start
We want every child to feel safe, supported and included in school life.
Kindergarten orientation and information sessions
Our orientation sessions help children:
- meet teachers and classmates
- explore classrooms and playgrounds
- practice simple routines
Parents and carers join information sessions to learn about daily schedules, uniforms, lunches and communication. If you need an interpreter, let us know.
Getting ready at home
You can help your child get ready by encouraging independence and routines. Try:
- packing and unpacking their school bag
- read lots of books about school (often preschool will have a collection parents can borrow)
- involve your child in choosing a lunch box, water bottle
- be excited when trying on uniforms and buying shoes
- dressing themselves and practising hygiene
- following simple routines at home.

What to expect in Kindergarten
Learning and development
Kindergarten follows the NSW curriculum. Children build early skills in literacy, numeracy, creative arts, health and physical activity, science and technology. Learning through play also supports social, emotional and academic growth.
Daily routines
Children learn routines such as morning arrival, snack and lunch breaks, lining up, using bubblers and moving safely around the school. Teachers guide children as they settle in, but practising at home helps.
Best Start Assessment
At the start of the year, all Kindergarten children take part in the Best Start Assessment. This is a friendly, one-on-one activity where teachers learn about your child’s literacy and numeracy skills. It is not a test and needs no preparation.
