Catching public transport

Public transport is a great way to safely get to and from school.

Catching a bus

For students heading home after school, the 944 bus is our top transport option — it runs right past the school, is reliable, and connects with many local stops. Whether you're going toward Bankstown, Mortdale, or Riverwood, the 944 gives you a convenient and stress-free ride.

Check the full timetable and route on the Transport for NSW website: 944 Bus – Transport for NSW.

Catching a train

Riverwood Train Station is the nearest railway station to Peakhurst Public School, offering students and families a convenient public transport option. The station is just a short walk from the school, making it an easy and reliable choice for those travelling by train. With frequent services on the T8 Airport & South Line, Riverwood provides smooth connections to surrounding suburbs and the wider Sydney network.

Driving and parking

The start and end of the school day are busy times for pedestrians and drivers outside schools.

When driving and parking near our school, please:

Road Safety

Peakhurst Public School welcomes careful road users. The streets that form the perimeter around the school can become very busy just before and just after school.  Collectively, motor vehicles, bicycles, scooters and pedestrian traffic create a potentially dangerous road area.

We ask that all our road users obey the rules of the road and exercise courtesy and caution at all times.

Bicycle and scooter safety

Students are allowed to ride bicycles and scooters to and from school with parental permission. Students must wear an Australian Standards fitting helmet and dismount from their bicycle or scooter at pedestrian crossings. Students must not ride their bicycle or scooter in school grounds. Bicycles must be stored in the bicycle racks at the school, located on the side of A Block. Students can provide their own lock.

Scooters are to be stored at teacher discretion in a safe place which does not obstruct any doorways, classroom area, or paths.

Drop Off and Pick Up

The Kiss and Ride zones are located on both Bailey Parade and Bonds Road. These follow the rules of a No Parking Zone (i.e. vehicles can only remain for two minutes and the driver must remain within three metres of the vehicle). Please ensure that when students leave a vehicle, they must do so on the kerb side via the safety door. Please refrain from encouraging students to cross the road by calling them or sounding a horn.

Driveways and parking

Around our school we have narrow and busy streets. Please ensure you park close to the kerb and avoid parking across residential driveways or double parking. Only park in legitimate on-street parking.

When walking with your child, please scan driveways for vehicles.

Pedestrians

There is one pedestrian access gate at the front of the school on Bonds Road, two pedestrian gates along Bailey Parade. There is another gate on Greenlands Avenue that provides access across the grassed area. This gate is not opened during wet weather.

Please note, all gates are locked during school hours, 9:30am to 3:20pm. Access during the school day is through the 'main front gate' on Bonds Road and closet to the front office.

There is one pedestrian crossing, on Bailey Parade.

Always hold your child's hand when crossing. It is recommended practice until 8 years of age. Please supervise your child in the roadside environment until they reach 10 years of age. It is also good to practise to "Stop, Look, Listen and Think" with your child before crossing the road.
